Albania has not been a great travel destiantion for travel in Europe. Albania is a land with a rich heritage, and even if it doesn't seem to be one of Europe's finest tourist spot at the moment, it could certainly emerge as one in years to come. It is a Mediterranean country in southeastern Europe, bordered by Montenegro and Serbia (Kosovo) in the north-east, the Republic of Macedonia in the east, and Greece in the south, has a coast on the Adriatic Sea in the west, and a coast on the Ionian Sea in the southwest. The country is an emerging democracy and is formally named the Republic of Albania. More recently, Albania gained international attention as the breeding ground for the Kosovo Liberation Army and the staging post for NATO forces who deployed into Kosovo during the massive bombing campaign over Yugoslavia. Since then the journalists have disappeared, tourism and traveling in Albnia has reduced and has along with the stories that brought them there.

The country has witnessed many vicissitudes in its eventful history-from fleeing refugees and blood vendettas, to years of dictatorial rule. Yet, Albania manages to offer tourists the traditional Mediterranean charm and a heady blend of different religions, cultures and landscapes. But Albania is not without its charm, even if those living there want to get out: forest-covered mountains and a long coastline along the Adriatic Sea are underscored by a distinctively Mediterranean feel. Cities like Tirana, Durrės and Shkodra date back as far as 500 BC;
